Εξαρτάται από την συνταγή και την επιθυμία του μάγειρα. Στην Ινδία το προσθέτουν στο φαγητό προς το τέλος του ψησίματος, για να μη χάσει το άρωμά του. Εκεί βέβαια ετοιμάζουν και το μίγμα επί τόπου.
Μια τυπική δοσολογία είναι 1 ½ κοταλιά της σούπας μίγμα μπαχαρικών «Γκαράμ Μασάλα» ανά κιλό κρέατος.
