Παραδοσιακά έχουν χρησιμοποιηθεί οι σπόροι, τα φύλλα και ο φλοιός του δέντρου της αγριοκαστανιάς για θεραπευτικά παρασκευάσματα. Προέρχεται από τις Ινδίες, ενώ σήμερα ευδοκιμεί στο μεγαλύτερο μέρος του Β. Ημισφαιρίου
Βασικές Ιδιότητες: αντιφλεγμονώδες, αναλγητικό, τονωτικό της κυκλοφορίας του αίματος, ενισχυτικό των τοιχωμάτων των αγγείων
Χρήσεις: χρόνια φλεβική ανεπάρκεια, αιμορροίδες, διαστρέμματα, οίδημα, φλεβίτιδα, υπερτροφία του προστάτη, επούλωση πληγών
Πως χρησιμοποιείται:
Για την θεραπεία της θρομβο-φλεβίτιδας χρησιμοποιείται το αφέψημα ή το βάμμα του βοτάνου (ή εκχύλισμα των σπόρων)

Σπάνια μπορεί να προκαλέσει διαταραχές στο στομάχι. Να αποφεύγεται ωστόσο από άτομα που πάσχουν από παθήσεις του ήπατος
